VR Movie of a scenic view from the Hillsborough Jetty in Carriacou's only town of Hillsborough When the image first loads and becomes viewable, you are looking southeast back up the jetty toward town. (Click here to see a VR movie of that area.) At the entrance to the jetty, and to the left as viewed here, is a large yellow masonry building that serves as the Grenada Customs department. Just a little beyond that building is the local post office. Across the street that is perpendicular to the jetty, a new Tourist Center is being built. To the right side of the entrance, again as seen here, are a number of small shops and restaurants. As you scan to the right you see the southwestern shoreline of town. Just in from the shore are numerous shops, guesthouses, and restaurants. Looking more to the right is the general direction that leads to Lauriston International Airport. Just to the left of three palm trees, the larger mountain seen to the south is Chapeau Carré, the tallest on the southern end of Carriacou, and the second tallest on Carriacou at 954 feet. Panning on around through the west you see the most western point on Carriacou, Point Cistern. In between it and the jetty are just a few small boats among others that often anchor here in Hillsborough Bay. Sometimes large cruise ships will stop and drop anchor a mile or more out and more to the west, and allow passengers to catch ferry's to shore. Spinning on around to view the outward end of the jetty, and looking northwest, you can see two ships docked on either side. This is were most cargo comes into Carriacou. It is also where daily ferries to and from the mainland of Grenada and other islands take on and drop off passengers. Just to the right of the large blue ship, and off in distance is Union Island on the northern horizon. Union Island is a possession of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Spinning on around to the right, the first taller mountain seen off in the distance on Carriacou is High North, the tallest on Carriacou at 955 feet. It is located above the Meldrum area and directly behind the Robinsons' neighborhood. More in the foreground, the sandy northeastern shore and beach can be seen. There are more shops, a guesthouse, and restaurants closer in toward town.
